Hello everyone... This is going to be my final blog, I hope you have enjoyed the previous blog as much as I enjoyed writing them. Today I will be writing about what I have learned this semester and about my plans for the coming semester. Keep reading and enjoy! This semester is one of the challenging semesters that I have learned a lot from specifically the Professional Writing course where I learned some communication skills to use in the field work and how to write a resume, a cover letter, a memo and an email to my colleagues at work. I have already applied some of the things I learned in my life, for instance, last month I applied for an internship and a CV and a cover letter were required so I applied what I learned to write these and checked them with my great professor who helped me perfect them. Qatar Economic Development  For the past couples of weeks, my group and I have been working on a report about Qatar economic development. In the report we talked about Qatar vision 2030, Qatar after the blockade, and two important projects that helped in the growth of the economy; and they are Baladna and Lusail City. The blockade was meant to affect Qatar’s economy and making it helpless in front of the siege counties. However, Qatar was able to prove itself and its economic strength in overcoming this crisis by finding new partnerships and working on local projects such as Baladna. Baladna is a private business established by Alkhayyat family. Baladna sells 100% Qatari dairy products and after the blockade, Qatar supported it more to cover the shortage in dairy products after they were cut by Saudi Arabia. More than 3,000 cows were shipped to Qatar and the market was filled with local dairy products which helped in the growth of the economy.  Furthermore...

Being out of the comfort zone

My first experience as an interpreter! In this blog, I will be talking about my experience in interpreting. On 22 of November, there was a talk titled ‘Hearing faces, seeing accents’ presented in Qatar University by Ingrid Piller a professor of applied linguistics and the department wanted students to volunteer for interpreting her talk to Arabic.                                         I would not usually have the courage to do that because I am still a beginner and I’m not really trained, but my friends encouraged me to participate with them in this exciting yet challenging experience, I agreed to push myself and get out of my comfort zone.  We were seven girls and we took turns so that each one of us interpret for 5 minutes. Soft skills vs Hard skills Going through university and to the workplace, people grow soft and hard skills that help them in every stage of their lives. Hard skills are teachable abilities that can be seen and measured such as math, photography, reading, cycling and many other things that a person can develop themselves in. However, soft skills are less tangible and some are innate abilities  but can be acquired as well such as socializing with others, etiquette, teamwork, and communication. I feel like I have better or stronger hard skills than soft skills just because my education system focuses more on that rather than the soft skills which I feel they are more important. I believe soft skills are more crucial because even if someone is a genius but do not know how to interact and get along with people, they would not be able to fit in and have peace in their relationships.                        ...

Sheikha Al mayassa talked about different aspects of the Qatari culture and touched upon important notions. Businesses in Doha  Now a days in Doha, small businesses like home businesses are becoming the source of income for a lot of people and some of these businesses are being very creative in their work to an extend where you can not tell that it is simply made by a home business. These small businesses get support by social media influencers’ advertising their business. The Qatari guy Abdulrahman Alemadi  t ook advantage of all these small businesses to start his own, he opened Market Café where home business owners who sell food can rent a small refrigerator for a month and sell their food or other businesses to rent a shelf to sell their products. Qatar Vision 2030

Qatar Vision 2030  In this blog, I will be talking about two of the coming projects that will fulfil Qatar’s vision for 2030. The first project is Lusail City and the second is Qatar Rail, I chose to talk about these two in specific because these are the most I’m excited about and they are going to be completed very soon.  Lusail City  Lusail City is one of the largest sustainable cities in Doha with its astonishing concepts and modernity it is the typical illustration of what Qatar’s vision in 2030. The city extends across an area  of 38 km and has four islands, one of them is Qetaifan island where luxurious waterfront living meets and where people can relax and enjoy spa treatments, tennis courts and pools. Furthermore, Lusail City is going to have entertainment and commercial districts with breathtaking architectural construction, commercial towers and avenues.
